When I went to school at UT, I met Dustin Colquitt a time or two; he was wild, or at least as wild as a punter can be. His brother is currently there, and appears to be equally wild, if not more.
Tennessee punter Britton Colquitt has been suspended for the Vols’ first five games of the 2008 season following his weekend arrest on charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
Colquitt, 22, also was stripped of his scholarship, Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer said in a statement Sunday.
According to the Knox County Judicial Commissioner’s Office, Colquitt hit a parked car early Sunday morning and then fled the scene. According to police reports, when officers stopped Colquitt, he admitted to drinking and driving as well as to hitting the car and a tree stump.
The story later goes on to say that he caused over $400 in damages, which really isn’t much considering another vehicle was involved. That said, jeez: This is about his fifth alcohol citation, and I went to this school. Unless you walk down the street with a beer and funnel in hand, you’re not getting caught.

He made a mistake. He’s in the process of apologizing to his family, the coaches and his teammates. It has been a long time since his citations, and who hasn’t drank under age on this campus?! He shouldn’t be drinking and driving, but he has admitted his problems, is going to get help, and will come out of this a better person.

a mistake? 20 mistakes isn’t a mistake. it’s a habit.

It may be a habit, but, Jason you do not know Britton, I on the other hand dated him in high school and have remained close with him since. He is a wonderful, kind, caring young man that any person would be privileged to know. He knows his mistakes, owned up to them and is making the changes that need to be made to better himself and eveyone involved. He has accepted his consequences everytime, this one included…even more so this time. He has a lot on him right now and the last thing he needs is some none knowing outsider to cast his rod. Do you not think he gets it…that he understands whats a stake here? Can you imagine the pressure he walks around with on a daily basis before this…then think about it now. Have you never made the same mistake more than once? I doubt it.

Becca…this is a selfish person..5 times and driving a vehicle. he could have easily hit a person walking in the area or another vehicle occuppied,Coach fulmer is part of the blame also…after 2 offenses even 3 to remain on the team he should have had a curfew…and even after offense 5 he is not kicked off…he is selfish..drinking his way out of a free aducation. This guy needs some help…Fulmer would have even been better to let him keep his scholly, but not participate in football anymore. Just graduate and get help. Long as he seeks help UT pays for his last year of school, but football should be over.
