Steve Bartman is one of the all-time great stories in sports, and like all great stories in sports, they never truly die. Even if this was five years ago come October, The Legend of Bartman continues to live.

Moises Alou, who was running for the foul ball that Bartman caught, admits he never had a chance at it, anyway.

“Everywhere I play, even now, people still yell, ‘Bartman! Bartman!’ I feel really bad for the kid,” Alou told Associated Press columnist Jim Litke.

“You know what the funny thing is?” he added a moment later. “I wouldn’t have caught it, anyway.”

Funny thing is, no one will care. Don’t get me wrong: I feel bad for the kid, too. But being dressed like that, looking all helpless like that, it’s almost as if he was destined to live this life.
