Philadelphia Phillies 5, New York Mets 2: It was the final home opener for the Mets in Shea Stadium, and it didn’t go so hot. Jaime Moyer pitched six innings and only gave up two runs for the Phillies. Odalis Perez pitched a three-hitter through five for the Mets, but his performance was spoiled by a bullpen that gave up five runs in four innings. The Mets are now 2-4, and are currently last in the NL East.
Atlanta Braves 3, Colorado Rockies 4: Chipper Jones is a player I love, but he often gets on his bullpen. This season, he needs to start getting on the hitters. The Braves had another solid pitching performance, but managed on three runs on six hits. Two of the three Colorado wins this year have come against Atlanta.
Detroit Tigers 0, Boston Red Sox 5: Boston received their World Series rings in this one, and, my God, Detroit lost again. It’s not just that the Tigers are losing, it’s more of how they’re losing: They can’t hit, they can’t pitch and, right now, they can’t even be competitive.
Baltimore Orioles 8, Texas Rangers 1: Is it just me, or does it seem the Orioles start off hot every year and then tank it about 10 games in? Brian Burres pitched seven innings and gave up only one run. Aubrey Huff was 4-4 with four RBI’s.
