New York Mets 1, Chicago cubs 7: Don’t be too surprised to start hearing Chicago fans scream that they’re better off without Alfonso Soriano in their lineup. Since his injury they’ve been good, and fans will cling to any reason — regardless of how absurd it is — for why their team’s fortunes have changed. Carlos Zambrano pitched seven innings, giving up only one run, and the Mets bullpen allowed five runs in less than two innings worth of work.

Florida Marlins 10, Pittsburgh Pirates 4: I have to keep posting when the Marlins win, because it’s utterly amazing. They’re 12-7 now, first place in the NL East, and seriously starting to piss me off.

Washington Nationals 3, Atlanta Braves 7: The Nats gave up four early runs, and Tim Hudson cruised the rest of the way. After going only three innings in his last outing, Hudson pitched seven strong giving up only one earned run. The Nats had 13 hits, but only managed three runs. Such is the life of a Washington fan.

Texas Rangers 3, Boston Red Sox 8: David Ortiz went .500 at the plate again, and the Yankees are quickly trying to dig that jersey back into the ground. . .
