While some of us were all caught up in the Spurs/Lakers game, others remembered there’s still some baseball to be played. Some scores from last night.
Atlanta Braves 2, Milwaukee Brewers 3: The Braves now have their worst road record since 1931, and if it wasn’t for a ridiculous home record, they’d probably be out of the playoff chase by now. Up 2-0 heading into the seventh, Tim Hudson gave up 2 runs, 1 in the seventh, 1 in the eighth, and then Jeff Bennett gave up the final run in the bottom of the ninth with two outs. Chipper Jones was 2-4, and is somehow still above .400 with more than 40 games played already this year.
Florida Marlins 3, New York Mets 5: See what a little bit of job security can do for a guy, New York? Willie Randolph, fresh off of being told his job was safe (I think Isiah heard that a time or two before), beat the first place Marlins of the NL East. Johan Santana pitched 7 innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 earned while striking out 7, improving his record to 6-3.
Texas Rangers 12, Tampa Bay Rays 6: Josh Hamilton is becoming more and more known across the league, and netting 5 RBI’s and smashing in a grand si-lami in this one doesn’t hurt his league recognition. He’s now hitting .329 on the year with 54 RBI’s, and is pretty much a lock for the All-Star game.
Toronto Blue Jays 1, Oakland A’s 3: AJ Burnett pitched a nice game for the Jays, going 5 innings and giving up only 2 earned, but it wasn’t enough to match Greg Smith’s effort, who pitched six scoreless innings and lowered his ERA to 2.84 on the year.
