A couple of years ago when the Tigers made it to the World Series, people were surprised. The Tigers, after all, were the Tigers — a team that hadn’t had much success in the last decade, which would lead one to assume they wouldn’t have much success in the future.

A World Series trip later, they proved everyone wrong. And, unfortunately, are starting to look more like that Detroit team I grew up with. After their 11-0 loss to the White Sox yesterday, Manager Jim Leyland is starting to speak up.

“There was one thing that sticks out to me right now that’s going on, and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” Leyland said after Sunday’s 11-0 loss to the White Sox, without revealing the issue.

“Where we’re at makes sense because that’s the way we’ve played,” Leyland said. “It’s not surprising that we’re 2-10. We’ve been shut out four times. … I didn’t think we’d get shut out four times all year, to be honest with you.”

When you don’t think you’re going to get shut out four times all year, and then you get shut out four times in the first twelve games. . . that’s when you start to realize that maybe things aren’t going right. Any moment now, and we’re sure to get a Gary Sheffield chime in. And I can’t freaking wait.
