It’s always sickening to hear pro players gripe about the amount of money they make, the total disrespect owners have for them as players, how they have families to feed, etc., but that doesn’t mean it will ever end.
Brian Urlacher is your most recent example, upset that he’s making just as much money as he was last year, and letting everyone know he won’t be in camp until they extend/up his contract.
Urlacher said he will remain at his home in Arizona rather than report to team activities outside of Chicago this week. He hinted that he won’t be around for any of the Bears’ voluntary offseason workouts or organized team activities, the Tribune reported.
Urlacher is looking to extend his current contract. He is signed through the 2011 season and is scheduled to make $3.95 million next year. It is the same salary he made for the 2007 season.
Let’s hope the Bears figure things out, for their sake. Their defense wasn’t very good last year, and without Urlacher, I hardly consider it a step forward for this year. I don’t think you want to have a “Should we go with Sexy Rexy or Kyle Orton” discussion at the middle linebacker position, too.
