Michael Irvin has lost his job as an NFL studio analyst for ESPN, two weeks after he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The network said Saturday that Irvin will not return next season — a decision made during the annual review of its commentators. ESPN would not give a reason for Irvin’s ouster, but network representative Bill Hofheimer said the former University of Miami and Dallas Cowboys star did not violate any clause in his contract.

No replacement for Irvin was announced, but the network recently has expressed interest in hiring former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells.

I can’t imagine too many of his co-workers missing him next year, especially Tom Jackson, who always seemed a little more irritated by Irvin’s antics than anyone else.

While I also got irritated with Irvin, I will miss him a little. Bill Parcells has an occasional witty comment that’s worth listening to, but something tells me he won’t say anything as stupid as Tony Romo having slave blood in him.

He may, however, slip and just call Romo a complete pussy. There’s hope, anyway.
