It’s official: The Falcons have over spent on a player who’s a backup. Michael Turner, who has spent the last three seasons in San Diego where he’s backed up LT, signed a six year contract worth $34.5 million, with $15 million in guaranteed money.

It’s hard to imagine why the Falcons pulled the trigger on this trade, given they have Jerious Norwood, who averages 5.0 yards per carry, but for one reason or another isn’t the starter. It’s also puzzling why they’d go for a running back at all, given the offensive line they’ve got.

All in all, the top skill positions on offense will be Michael Turner, Roddy White, and Chris Redman. Not exactly imposing to defenses.
