When I think Michael Vick, I think of a few things: Fast quarterback. Erratic arm. Pot. Crazy brother. Not this.

Falcons quarterback Michael Vick will be among hundreds of advocates to address members of Congress in Washington Tuesday – including Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson – about the need to restore and increase funding for after-school programs in schools nationwide.

Before meeting with lawmakers, Vick will be honored at a breakfast by Afterschool Alliance, a group established to help generate, fund and lobby for programs that give school children alternatives outside of the classroom.

Vick has been a supporter of extra-curricular programs, especially the Boys and Girls Clubs, and, through his foundation, has provided grants and other assistance for youth-based programs in his native Virginia and in Georgia.

Now, things I don’t think of when I think “Michael Vick:” Children. Congress. Donations. Drug-free after-school programs.
