There’s still two games going on, but I’ve got money on neither (and thankfully I don’t have anything on Minnesota, who couldn’t complete a pass to the ocean right now). This is what I learned in my week of betting.

  • The Redskins are a lot worse than I originally thought they were. And no, the Giants aren’t much better, they just played a vastly inferior team.
  • The Rams are the worst team in this league. Given what I saw from their offensive blocking, they may be the worst team we’ve seen in a while.
  • Everyone has talked about New England, Indy, San Diego and Jacksvonille as the teams to watch out for the AFC. After Week 1, I gotta know: What’s everyone’s opinion on Pittsburgh? On the other side of the ball, the only bright spot for Houston was Mario Williams’ two sacks and one forced fumble.
  • The Bengals are God awful. Carson Palmer, who’s supposed to be an elite quarterback, just doesn’t put up elite numbers anymore. Neither Chad Johnson nor Ocho Cinco showed up for this one.
  • Baltimore’s defense may be back. I’m not going to jump to assumptions on one game against a mediocre team, but that defense didn’t give up a touchdown, and if Ed Reed stays healthy, watch out.
  • As I said yesterday, the Falcons were right in picking Matt Ryan over Glenn Dorsey. He’s a better player, gives them a better shot of winning, and the kid is just smart.
  • That said, it looks like more of the same in Detroit. Calvin had a good game, but the rest of the Lions just looked awful, especially that defense that gave up 300+ yards on the ground.
  • Seattle is bad. I’d love to make excuses, but they can’t run, they can’t pass, and the O-line is beaten up.
  • What were the odds at the beginning of the season that the Bills would win the AFC East? What are they now that New England’s out?
  • I think the Jets are overrated. They need to lean more on the run if they’re gonig to continue to win. At the end of the day, they beat a young, bad Miami team.
  • The Pats will still make a playoff push without Tom Brady. I don’t know if anyone was paying attention, but Matt Cassell didn’t exactly have a terrible game, and had Bill let him air it out more, it probably would’ve been better.
  • Reggie Bush had a longer play in this game than he had all of last year. His rival, Mario Williams, had two sacks though.
  • Jacksonville isn’t overrated, but the Titans are underrated. They’re great at stopping the run, and Jeff Fisher is good enough on offense to get the job done.
  • That offense the Cowboys has looks similar to the Pats of last year — big offensive line, big play receivers, strong running back, and an accurate quarterback.
  • San Diego needs to learn what every team has learned but never implements: rush more than four people at the quarterback when the game is winding down.
  • The Cardinals made the right move with Kurt Warner at quarterback. JT O’Sullivan may not be the wrong choice, but he didn’t look like the right one on Sunday.
  • I’m not going to jump on the Bears bandwagon and say, “They’re back!” But I will say their defense looked awful good, and Matt Forte, the rookie, did a great job of carrying the rock. We’ll see if this can stretch longer than one game.
