Tampa Bay Bucs 9, Dallas Cowboys 13: The Cowboys needed this more than Deuce McCallister needs his water pills. They’ve got the Giants next week, who should thoroughly kill them, and then a bye week. If they can get Romo back before the game in Philly, they might be able to salvage the season. Beating a Tampa team that might be a Wild Card threat down the road will help.
Washington Redskins 25, Detroit Lions 18: At the end of the day, the ‘Skins covered by a point. That’s what mattered to me, since this was my Lock of the Week. The Lions are looking better each week, but that’s not helping them get a W right now. Calvin Johnson is playing well, but that defense still needs a lot of work.
Buffalo Bills 16, Miami Dolphins 25: I’ve bet on the Bills twice this season: Once when they barely beat the Raiders, and once in this game. My time for betting on Buffalo is done. The Raiders, as you probably well know, are a team to absolutely not touch. Miami, I’m coming to find out, is a team you just can’t predict.
St. Louis Rams 16, New England Patriots 23: It was an ugly win, but the Pats will take it. Props to head coach Jim Haslett, who for the third week in a row had his team ready to play. They didn’t win, but a close loss on the road in New England is nothing to sneeze at.
San Diego Chargers 32, New Orleans Saints 37: I bet the over on this one, and it just about hit at halftime. It’s hard to believe that San Diego’s defense is really that bad when Shawne Merriman isn’t in the lineup. The Saints are about to lose half their starting roster because of water pills, so this was a must win for them.
Kansas City Chiefs 24, New York Jets 28: Brett Favre has become that quaterback that will always keep you and the other team in the game. He threw three picks against a defense that had three picks all year coming into it. Get used to those boo birds, Brett.
Atlanta Falcons 14, Philadelphia Eagles 27: It’s a shame a bad call took the ball out of the Falcons hands and we didn’t get a chance to see if Matt Ryan could guide them downfield to take the lead. Jennings clearly didn’t touch the punt, the Eagles got the ball back, and two plays later Westbrook was trotting into the end zone when Atlanta should’ve been hurling it downfield. Pity.
Arizona Cardinals 23, Carolina Panthers 27: The Panthers record is misleading. They’ve played five games at home and only two on the road. They’re about to hit the road hard, where they’ve really struggled to generate an offense.
Oakland Raiders 10, Baltimore Ravens 29: JaMarcus Russell is only completing 50 percent of his passes, and he’s been sacked 18 times. I don’t watch the Raiders enough to know if this is his fault or his offensive line’s fault, but something needs to change.
Cincinnati Bengals 6, Houston Texans 35: I said three weeks ago they were the best winless team out there. They’re not the best three win team right now, but the Texans are well on their way to making a playoff push. Cincinnati, meanwhile, would have that first pick locked up if it wasn’t for Detroit.
Cleveland Browns 23, Jacksonville Jaguars 17: The Jags needed this one. Plain and simple. With the win, playoffs isn’t out of the question for the Browns, who actually had a pretty tough first few games.
New York Giants 21, Pittsburgh Steelers 14: I think it was a combination of New York’s defense and Pittsburgh’s offensive line that contributed to Ben Roethlisberger’s inability to stand up in the pocket. The Giants have a pretty simple plan: Pressure the QB, run the ball enough, and don’t throw interceptions. The Steelers couldn’t really do any of the above.
Seattle Seahawks 34, SF 49′ers 13: Props to Mike Singletary for calling out players that aren’t playing at full speed. This team is a disaster of draft after draft. For all the crap Matt Millen has caught for his draft blunders year in and year out, the Niners really haven’t done much better; they haven’t been good in years, and there’s no real great “youth” on this team outside of Pat Willis.
