Last Sunday was kind of tough. Here’s how I’m doing.
Last week: 7-9
On the Season: 82-67
(Note: I would have been over .500 if the Rams didn’t choke and the Broncos didn’t kick the ball over and over again to Devin Hester.)
-Falcons (+3) @ Rams: It’s the first game, and I’m already saying to lock this one up. Gus Frerotte, arguably the worst back-up QB of all time, is your starter, here. Bobby Petrino may have had a rough first year, but this is a gift: Punt the the three; Falcons win straight up.
-Jaguars (+6.5) @ Colts: Remember when Marvin Harrison was maybe going to play against the Pats? Remember when this injury was something that may keep him out one week? I’m not saying Indianapolis is hiding anything, but two months later, still no Marvin Harrison. That said, take the Jags.
-Jets @ Dolphins (-1): I would love to see them go winless, but they’ve played teams close, they’re at home, and the Jets suck. Say hello to your first win as a head coach, Cam. Dolphins beat the Jets 2-0, cover.
-Chargers @ Chiefs (+6): Getting six points at home against a team that hasn’t been consistent all year? Norv seems to have righted this ship, which, based on history, means it’s time to hit rock bottom again. KC dominated San Diego in California; it should be more of the same at home. Chiefs cover, win in an upset.
-Seahawks @ Eagles (-3): White, Unathletic Quarterback Magic is back. Last year it was Jeff Garcia. This year it’s AJ Feely. Take the Eagles to cover, try a late run at the playoffs.
-49′ers @ Panthers (-3): Do. Not. Touch. This. Game. Really. But again, I’m forced to pick, so take the Panthers. I guess.
-Bucs (+3) @ Saints: Every time I start jumping on the Saints bandwagon, Drew Brees goes and throws a 4 interception game. Take the Bucs to cover, win, all but clinching the South.
-Browns (+1) @ Cardinals: I know I said the Falcons were the lock of the week. Scratch that. Did anyone else see the Cardinals lose at home to the Niners? To the Niners? Browns are the third best team in the AFC. Take ‘em to cover, easy.
-Broncos (-3.5) @ Raiders: The Raiders are terrible against the run, and Denver, if you haven’t noticed over the past ten years, can run. Broncos cover, win by 10.
-Giants (-1.5) @ Bears: The Bears won a game last week they had absolutely no business winning. Here’s to thinking Coughlin’s smarter than Shannahan and won’t kick to Hester. I’m thinking he’s learned. Giants cover, bounce back from last week.
-Bills (+5) @ Redskins: One of two things will happen: The Redskins, fueled by emotion, will run roughshod on the Bills (I’m kind of hoping that, to be honest). That, or they’ll be so sad after the events that have taken place this week that they don’t really pay much attention to a football game. I’m hoping for the first, but I’m thinking the latter may be more realistic. I wouldn’t touch this game in real life. But since I’m forced to pick, I’ll say take Buffalo and the five.
-Lions @ Vikings (-4): The Lions play terrible on the road. They have a hard time stopping the run. They, themselves, can’t run. Vikings can really stop the run. Too many things adding up here. Take the Vikings to win by two touchdowns.
-Texans (+3.5) @ Titans: I just can’t see Tennessee favored by more than a field goal. Not with their offense. Texans lose by a field goal, but enjoy Vegas’ gift half-point.
-Bengals @ Steelers (-7): They’ve been struggling, but Pittsburgh’s still been winning. And what’s the quickest way to fix a struggling offense? Play the Bengals defense! I know Cincinnati has been doing well the last couple of weeks, but whatever. Take the Steelers at home to cover.
-Patriots (-20) @ Ravens: Last week this team screwed me. And just by playing a close game, the Pats feel they have something to prove. Good news for New England: They’ll be able to prove that against a team that can’t score. I used to like Baltimore’s defense. I’ve never liked their offense. 20 points is a gift. Take the Pats to cover by halftime.
