The first round of games are over, and the 4:00 games are making their way towards halftime. Here’s the scores from today.
Miami Dolphins 28, Houston Texans 29: Matt Schaub ran the ball in with 0:05 left to play, giving Houston their first win of the season. Mario Williams had two sacks, Matt Schaub threw for 379 yards, and Andre Johnson had a big day with 178 yards receiving.
St. Louis Rams 19, Washington Redskins 17: I’ve picked against the Redskins every week, and every week they’ve covered. The one time I roll with ‘em, and they give the helpless Rams their first win of the season.
Carolina Panthers 3, Tampa Bay Bucs 27: It’s been a see-saw at quarterback for the Bucs, but Jeff Garcia got the job done today. Jake Delhomme had 242 yards through the air, but threw three costly picks.
Cincinnati Bengals 14, New York Jets 26: Thomas Jones had three touchdowns for the Jets, two on the ground and one receiving.
Oakland Raiders 3, New Orleans Saints 34: Drew Brees was 26-30 for 320 yards and three touchdowns. I didn’t see the game, so I can’t say it for certain, but ya gotta believe DeAngelo Hall was toasted often in this one. Again.
Detroit Lions 10, Minnesota Vikings 12: A valiant effort by the Lions, who had a week off. Calvin Johnson had a touchdown, but a safety for Minnesota at the beginning of the game turned out to be what sealed the deal in the end.
Baltimore Ravens 3, Indianapolis Colts 31: This one was over when it started. Peyton was right back in sync, throwing deep balls and conneting often with Marvin Harrison (83 yards) and Reggie Wayne (118 yards).
Chicago Bears 20, Atlanta Falcons 22: This was a crazy game. The Falcons were up 6, went to kick a field goal 30 yards out with Elam, who hadn’t missed all season. He misses, Chicago marches down the field, gets a touchdown with 0:11 to play. They kick off, the Falcons get it to their own 40 with :06 left. Matt Ryan throws a deep out to Michael Jenkins, who gets out of bounds at the Bears 32 yard line with :02 left. Jason Elam, who just missed a 30 yarder, then hits a game winner. All this happened in a span of :11, but it seemed like an eternity.
Green Bay Packers 3, Seattle Seahawks 10: The Packers started off strong and are now looking rough. And given that they’re not throwing all over Seattle, who’s been thrown all over all season, it’s not looking good.
Philadelphia Eagles 17, San Francisco 49′ers 6: Mike Nolan may be seeing the writing on the wall real, real soon.
Dallas Cowboys 0, Arizona Cardinals 7: I always liked the guy, but watching this game now, I’ve almost gotta believe Tony Romo is the most overrated quarterback in teh NFL.
Jacksonville Jaguars 10, Denver Broncos 7: It’s right at halftime in this one. . . look for Denver to come out of the gates and score 20+ in the second half.
