With the NFL season three games old, I’m taking a look at the undefeated teams, and those teams that are yet to win. Which one’s the best? Which one’s the worst? Here’s my order.
-Worst Team, St. Louis Rams: It’s hard to argue that this team isn’t the worst in football. The only argument you may have is that their competition has been Philly, the Giants, and a team that most thought would win the NFC West (a thought that was quickly dimished upon watching the Seahawks the first two weeks of the season). That said, their defense is awful, their offense can’t get going, and there’s really nothing to cheer for in St. Louis right now.
Second Worst Team, Kansas City Chiefs: It was close to not have these guys labeled The Worst. And if Tyler Thigpen is the starter for much longer, they’ll probably win that title.
-No Defense No Offense, Detroit Lions: If this team could not get down by three touchdowns before they sneeze, they may have a chance. How is it possible this team is this bad with all the good draft picks they’ve had over the years?
-Really Bad But There’s Some Hope, Cincinnati Bengals: It’s hard to say a team with that offense is completely done. But they needed to grab that W in New York. As 13.5 point underdogs, you’d say it was a moral victory, but at 0-3 there are no moral victories.
-Looking Bad But Don’t Count Them Out, Cleveland Browns: I won’t say this team is going to make the playoffs, but their offense is bound to eventually click. Last season, Derrick Anderson had no pressure and performed. This season he’s feeling the grind of being a possible playoff contender, and he’s choking weekly.
-Best of the Best, Dallas Cowboys: I’m not the biggest Tony Romo fan, but this team seems to play enough defense to win, and that offense is ridiculous. If Marion Barber stays healthy and runs like he did against Green Bay, it’s going to be awful hard to sneak one by these guys.
-Close But No Cigar, Tennessee Titans: It’s been a long while since the Colts haven’t won the South, but this may be the year the streak ends. No Vince Young has equaled less turnovers, and the defense is playing out of its mind. The Jeff Fisher for Coach of the Year campaign should begin by Week 8 when this team is 7-0 and hosting Indianapolis.
-Super Bowl Winners, New York Giants: It’s hard for a team that just won the Super Bowl to go 3-0 and still get no love, but you’re seeing it across the nation. Truth be told, I don’t think this team would have it any other way. Against Cincinnati, they got eight sacks, showing that they’re just fine without Strahan and Umenyiora.
-From Nowhere, Buffalo Bills: Where did this team come from? They don’t have a lot of house hold names, yet they keep on winning. If they keep it up, they’ll prove me wrong; I’m half expecting this team to fail, but Sunday against the Raiders was a true test against their will, and they passed it.
-Lots of Offense But Bad Defense, Denver Broncos: The only team their defense looked all right was against the Raiders. That said, they’re on pace to beat the record set last year by the Pats for most points in a season, and Jay Cutler looks as comfortable as anyone in the pocket right now.
