In an attempt to probably capture more money, Bill Self said he woudl entertain the possibility of coaching for Oklahoma State. Once the money came pouring in for Kansas, Bill Self suddenly wasn’t very interested anymore.

“Home called,” Self said. “And we love home. But this is home now.”

“There was never serious interest on our part in leaving the University of Kansas,” said Self, who has won 142 games, four Big 12 titles and a national championship in five highly successful seasons with the Jayhawks.

“But there was serious interest in listening and helping Oklahoma State in a way that would put their basketball program in the position they want it to be in. We visited and slept on it and came to the conclusion that I felt all along that the time is right for my family to be in Lawrence, Kan., and lead this program, hopefully, to bigger and better things in the future.”

The noise you just heard? It was many Kansas fans, all collectively breathing a sigh of relief.

March Madness Update

Louisville 66, Pitt 53: It was 36-19, Louisville at the half, and Pitt never could fully recover. David Padgett led all Cadinals players with 16 points, in a game that Louisville desperately needed to try and make a case for the tournament (yeah, they have 18 wins, but their resume isn’t very impressive).

West Virginia 53, Georgetown 71: So much for being in the top 25, West Virginia. After climbing in last week with their big win against UCLA, they might have just climbed themselves back out. West Virginia’s leading scorer had ten points, which is never a good sign, especially when the other team has three players who top that total.

Ok. State 54, Texas 83: I watched the first game between these two teams, and I will remember it fondly for quite some time. It was one of the best college basketball games I’d ever seen. Thankfully, I didn’t waste two hours of my life watching the encore. Kevin Durant led Texas in scoring (again) and rebounding (again), and Ok. State was outscored 52-30 in the second half. Mario Bogan did his part, putting in 16 points.

Sorry these are being posted so late, but I woke up late as hell today. Couldn’t fall asleep last night. I was having dreams of Georgia Tech being dominated by Duke, only to wake up and realize that we beat them like they were our Sister of the ACC. Take that, Duke. It’s about time (it was only our 2nd win against them in the last 22 meetings. Not a very good percentage, since you had to ask).

Kansas 87, Ok. State 57: So much for Ok. State being a top ten team. Kansas had a 17 point lead at the break, and continued their wrecking-ball dominance through the second half. Now we’ll see if they can do this in March.

Butler 67, Illinois-Chicago 73: So much for this team to be a 3 seed in March. They had a nice little run, but a couple of more losses and they’ll go back to Cinderella status.

Marquette 73, UCONN 69: Jim Calhoun’s squad is starting to come back to earth after a nice start. This loss was most deflating because it came at home, where Uconn had a 31 game winning-streak.

Vandy 82, UT 81: Vandy has now beaten Georgia Tech and Tennessee, making them my least favorite team in the nation. Chris Lofton did his thing for the Vols, shooting 6/7 from beyond the arch, which actually turned out to be an off day.
