Not Just Football Today

greg-oden.jpg

Football starts at 4:30 p.m., but until then, there’s some pretty good basketball on. Tennessee is tied with Ohio State right now (CBS). Chris Lofton has already sank two three-pointers, and leads the Vols with 8 points. The Man Child, 10 minutes through the game, already has 10 points. Here’s some other games you can view today:

-Now Playing: West Virginia @ Marquette (ESPN)
-Kansas @ Iowa State (ESPN 2:00)
-UNC @ VT (ABC 3:30)

And Georgetown plays Pitt at 9:00 p.m., but unless you’re a serious fan of one of these teams, I don’t think you’ll be watching it over the Eagles and the Saints, which starts at 8:00 p.m.

Hope you enjoy the games today. I’ll be posting throughout, if I’m not wicked drunk.

More Players Wanting A Paycheck

The news just got worse for Notre Dame’s offense, now that Darius Walker, junior tailback for the Irish, has announced he’ll go to the NFL. This seemed as an odd move to me and to many other scouts. From what I’ve read, there’s a slight chance he’ll go first round, but most experts are saying he’s going to be second round, and might even slip to the third round. I guess when Charlie Weis held a team meeting to try and urge his 1st string defense to leave early, the wrong message was received.

Speaking of teams who got shattered in their bowl game, Anthony Gonzalez, starting wide receiver opposite of Ted Ginn, has also announced that he’ll leave early. This comes as bad news to the Buckeyes, who have also lost a Heisman winner and some kind of sprinting freak to the NFL already.

If you’re an Ohio State fan, then you’ve just hated your week, partly because your team has stunk it up against good teams, and partly because Florida is being made out to be the Team of the Decade. Florida took the hardwood tonight and beat Arkansas 79-72. Ohio State, meanwhile, lost to number 4 Wisconsin when Jamar Butler’s last-second three clanked off the back iron, making certain that Ohio State have its most miserable 24 hours in school history.

Look. I rooted for the Gators last night. But this happy-happy string of good fortunes is getting a little old, and I’m actually starting to find myself feeling sorry for the Buckeyes. That sympathy doesn’t stretch far enough to cover Jim Tressel, though. I’m happy he’s suffering.
