Not wanting to play without his high school coach, or maybe just tired of being benched after posting an undefeated record as a starter, Mitch Mustain, prized recruit last year, is transferring to Tulsa. Mustain will join Gus Malzahn, his high school coach, who just took a job a couple of days ago with Tulsa, signing a contract to be their assistant coach/offfensive coordinator.
I don’t think Arkansas is fretting too much about this, considering that Darren McFadden plays QB seventy percent of the time anyway, but this isn’t going to help their recruting of quarterbacks in the future. What is Houston’s pitch going to be?
“Uh, kid, have you seen the shit I can do with young quarterbacks? Mustain was undefeated. . . and I yanked him. If you don’t go twelve-and-oh, then forget it. You ain’t Arkansas material. Cock of the walk, baby. Cock of the walk.”
[awkward silence in the poor recruits living room]
Hopefully Mustain will do well in Tulsa. I can’t imagine him doing much better than an 8-0 record in the SEC, no less, but at least he won’t be yanked for putting together such a horrible season.
