I saw yesterday that the Raiders were contemplating releasing Pro Bowl corner DeAngelo Hall. I scratched my head. It seems like just yesterday — well, it was only a few months ago — that they signed Hall to a long-term deal after trading him to the Falcons for their 2nd and 5th round selections.

Halfway through the season, he’s been released.

I understand releasing Hall — the guy’s a cancer. What I don’t understand is signing the guy when you know he’s a cancer, paying him eight million, then releasing him after only half a season.

This probably all makes sense in the eyes of Al Davis, who also might be cutting Javon Walker, another guy signed this year, who has already earned $11 million. Don’t be surprised to see every free agent shortly vying to play for Davis and the Raiders, knowing they’ll get two years of salary in half a season and be able to sign elsewhere.
